Yahoo UK fund codes changed-new ones in pence not pounds

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby John Davies » Sat Feb 16, 2008 5:04 pm

Help - what's changed?

Yahoo UK no longer recognises all the fund codes I've used for the last few years. They seem to have introduced new ones, but the prices retrieved are in pence not pounds.

Help please :
1) The new prices are in pence, not pounds. How do I deal with prices that appear to be 100 times too big? I can see references in these forums to the problem, but can't find the solution either here on in the Help pages.
2) Why have Yahoo done this? Has anybody else noticed this problem?
3) I see from posts here that FM v9 will allow a multiplication factor to be applied on an investment-by-investment basis to cope with this. When is v9 expected to be available?

Regards
John

Hi John,

I'm not aware of any changes on Yahoo UK. Have you gone there with a web browser, and looked up one of your symbols? Do your symbols end in ".L"? Can you give a an example ticker symbol that won't retrieve? FM automatically converts from pence to pounds for symbols ending in ".L" on this server.

v9 is expected to have a per-investment multiplication factor you can set. v9 doesn't have a set release date, but it will probably be around May or June.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark.

MFILUKE.L or MFSTNAM.L are examples - I have about a dozen other funds that all stopped working on or after 25 Jan 2008. I revalue our portfolio once a week at the weekend - 25th was the last price retrieved for all our funds. Yahoo UK seem to have introduced new codes such as GB0003865176GBP for Fidelity American Accumulator (used to be MFFIAM.L).

I've tried searching Yahoo UK's "Get Quote" service, and all the old fund codes seem to have disappeared. Stocks still work - it's just the funds that all seem to have changed.

At the moment I can find the new codes for most of my funds, but can't find most of the new codes for the Standard Life funds. And the new codes are brought in at 100 times too much. Makes a nice change to see my portfolio increasing in value nowadays <g>....

Surprised nobody else in the UK has spotted this...

Grateful for any help you can provide.......

Rgds
John

Hi John,

I didn't see these symbols available on Yahoo UK either. Since you have to use a symbol that doesn't end in ".L", I don't have a real good solution for forcing the updates in pounds. (Version 9 will address this problem.)

One workaround you could use is to create yourself a temporary sub-portfolio and put all these investments in that sub-portfolio. After you do your price retrieve, use the "File / File Operations / Scale Prices..." command and scale all prices in this new sub-portfolio by 0.01 to convert them to pounds. You will want to set the date range in this dialog so that you only scale recently retrieved prices that were in pence. You don't want to scale your pound prices...

Another possible workaround is to look on some other quote server, and see if they offer your quotes in pounds.
Thanks,
Mark
