How do deal with Fidelity NetBenefits bad CUSIPs?

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby DKonigsbach » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:11 pm

Hi, Mark,

I'm having trouble downloading investments from Fidelity NetBenefits, because the CUSIPs are bad in their OFX, e.g.:

* Fidelity Low-Priced Stock Fund (FLPSX), CUSIP 316345305
Code: Select all
<SECID>
    <UNIQUEID>0316</UNIQUEID>
    <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP</UNIQUEIDTYPE>
</SECID>

* Invesco International Growth Instl CL (AIEVX), CUSIP 008882771
Code: Select all
<SECID>
      <UNIQUEID>OKZX</UNIQUEID>
      <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP</UNIQUEIDTYPE>
</SECID>

* Morgan Stanley Institutional Mid Cap Growth Fund Class P (MACGX), CUSIP 617440599
Code: Select all
<SECID>
      <UNIQUEID>OFM5</UNIQUEID>
      <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP</UNIQUEIDTYPE>
</SECID>

* Spartan 500 Index - Investor Class (FUSEX), CUSIP 315911206
Code: Select all
<SECID>
      <UNIQUEID>0650</UNIQUEID>
      <UNIQUEIDTYPE>CUSIP</UNIQUEIDTYPE>
</SECID>

So, three questions for you:

1) Are you in a position to ask Fidelity NetBenefits "What gives?" with their OFX?

2) How would you feel about being able to override security matching in Fund Manager during Transaction Receive? IOW, be able to tell FM "No, that's not a new security. Put the transactions in this security, instead.

3) How would you feel about the ability to edit transactions to move them from one security to another, so that if FM creates a new security automatically or picks the wrong one, you can fix a transactions instead of deleting and reentering it?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Why not just go with what Fidelity is reporting, and use those instead of the real CUSIPs? Fund Manager uses the symbol for updating prices, so you can record the CUSIP however you need for retrieving your transactions. Is there some problem you're running into with this approach?

To answer your questions:

1) No, we don't have a specific contact there.

2) That could be possible, although it is best to not have to get into this situation, as it then requires manual intervention. I would really consider just recording the CUSIPs as they have them.

3) You can use copy/paste now to do this. In the Data Register you can go to the transaction, copy it, and then go paste it into the desired investment.
Thanks,
Mark
