Price = Yield for Vanguard Prime Money Market

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ggellman » Tue Nov 02, 2010 4:42 pm

All of a sudden, the retrieved EOD price quote via Yahoo for Vanguard Prime Money Market (Cusip 922906201, VMMXX) is .08 (11/1) or .07 (11/2). These amounts are the current yield, not the price. I tried changing to bloomberg and got an error that investment could not be updated. This is a simple money market that always tries to keep the price at a $1 so I disabled the internet retrieve to temporarily solve the problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi ggellman,

It is normal to not retrieve prices for cash type investments (including money markets). This is the default when creating new cash type investments. Yahoo does indeed report a yield for money markets, instead of the desired $1 price, so what you did is correct, and the permanent solution.
Thanks,
Mark
