Entering future credits or debits in cash account

HI!
Today I tried to make a cash debit entry for January 1, 2011. I want to do this so I will not forget to do it on that date (and so I can file the document I received now). It would be wonderful if there is a way to change the program so that cash would not be debited until the date of the entry. The way it is now, my cash balance was off by the debit amount right away.

It should work as you've described that you want it to work. Your cash balance does not change now for a transaction in the future. Are you sure you have the right date on your cash transaction? What date are you viewing your cash balance for?
