Fees not associated with a transaction

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Ivan » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:25 am

My 401K is at Vanguard. Once a year they assess a small fee, associated with each fund I own, which is deducted as shares from my fund holding. The only way I can think of to record these is to just use a Sell Transaction and make a note that it is a fee. Is that the best way, or is there something better which will actually record it as a fee?

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Yes, a better way is to record it as an Account Fee type of distribution. Record a new distribution, and check the "Reinvested" option. Select "Account Fee" for the type of distribution. Enter the value and shares as negative numbers.
Thanks,
Mark
