Scottrade problem

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby martcsalbert » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:07 am

Hi Mark.

I am helping my father get FM working for him. When we try to connect to his Scottrade account and download transaction data we get a site certificate error as follows:

12480309
Winet Errorcode: 12038
Message: The host name in the certificate is invalid or does not match.

When I look up the certifcate in the browser, I can see that the security certificate for their site has expired, which I assume is the error. I have tried this on two machines, one Vista/IE 7 and one XP/IE 6. Same error.

I don't see any posts about this type of problem on this message board. Hoping you might have heard of the problem and have an idea.

Thanks very much,

Marc Albert

Hi Marc,

Just as a follow-up to the phone conversation we just had... I verified that Scottrade's OFX server does still have a valid certificate (through 10/2008). I also was able to connect okay to Scottrade from within Fund Manager. Here are some ideas of tests you can do to help isolate the problem:

1) Try creating a fake account with a bad login username/password, and see if you get "Signon Invalid" when retrieving from Scottrade? This will test if the problem is happening before/after signing in.

2) Fund Manager uses a component of IE when making these HTTPS requests, so you can try resetting your IE settings to see if this somehow makes a difference. I've never had anyone have to mess with these before, but you might try erasing any stored certificates and maybe resetting your options.

3) You can also try downloading an evaluation copy of MS Money, and seeing if you run into the same problem with that program? Both Fund Manager and MS Money use the same IE component when connecting, so I suspect you would see the same problem.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark.

I tried again today to retrieve transactions from Scottrade. On the first machine, I tried your suggestion #2 (in this case, going into my browser and deleting the expired certificate). Download worked fine. Then I tried on my Vista machine (after doing nothing whatsoever). Download again worked fine. I can only guess that something on the Scottrade site changed from Saturday (when I had first encountered the problem) to today.

Thanks again.
