Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby attunement » Tue May 03, 2011 7:54 pm

Hi,

I am in the process of opening up accounts with OptionsHouse and TradeMonster.

It does not appear that these options are available for automatically getting and downloading online transactions.

I love FundManager and would hate it if this part of my portfolio couldn't be atuomatically updated.

Is there are newer version that includes these two brokers?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Hi attunement,

This feature requires that the broker make available an Open Financial Exchange (OFX) server. We support all brokers that we know of that have an OFX server. We will gladly add support for any other broker that makes an OFX server available, but I am not aware that either of these brokers have an OFX server. You might contact them, and ask if they plan to make one available. If they do, we'll add support for them. For more on this, please see:

Thanks for the response, Mark.

Actually, I should have realized this before I put up my post, as I've seen this answer (for other brokerages) before. They need the OFX! Sorry, just forgot.

OK, but it still looks like I can download the transactions via a quicken or money file, and then import the transactions that way.

So everything's cool.

Hi Tod,

Yes, that question does get asked a lot... Usually if a broker doesn't have an OFX server, hopefully they at least allow you to download an OFX file, which you can then import. Glad it sounds like yours does that.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I've been forced to leave Scottrade and am going to be working with Trade Monster. I understand the prior discussion. While I can get an OFX file from them, it is on an account by account basis -- one file per account. That's an awkward process (downloading then importing for each account).

I noted in your Internet Retrieve from Broker listing you show Pension Financial Services. Pension was merged/absorbed into the current Apex Clearing Corp. which clears for Trade Monster and many other brokers. On the off chance it would work, I set up a dummy sub-portfolio with a live Trade Monster account and tried the retrieve using Pension as the broker and it failed (couldn't make contact with the server). Is this a link that could possibly be revived? At least this would be an automated account by account transfer.

Now that even more Brokers are culling out smaller advisers (like me), others, like Trade Monster are opening adviser services operations to pick up this business and you might want to contact them about setting up a download. The contact at Trade Monster is Rick Norwood 312-253-4190.

Hi Elliot,

It looks like we need to remove that Penson Financial Services link. The server isn't there anymore. We will gladly add support for Trade Monster if they make an OFX server available. You might ask them for instructions on transferring to Quicken. You could do the same for Fund Manager. I suspect it will be an OFX download/import though.

The OFX interface is geared towards retail users. If Trade Monster develops an institutional interface, where you can download all your client's transactions to a single file for import we can consider adding support for it.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Elliot mentions Apex Clearing Corp. I have an account with Wealthfront and they use Apex Clearing Corporation as their broker. Wealthfront has instructions on their site that say you can import your data into TurboTax by selecting Apex Clearing Corp from their list of brokers and it specifically says your data will be automatically imported into your tax return. This sounds to me like they have an OFX server setup. The other instructions given by Wealthfront just have a user name and password I should use once I select Apex in TurboTax, no other specifics on how to connect to the OFX server.

I also found another site (Form 8949.com, https://www.form8949.com/brokerlist2014.html) that says that Apex Clearing has an OFX server that 8949 can talk to. Not sure how reputable Form 8949.com is, but is this enough information for you to find the OFX server for Apex? Sounds like this would set both of us up.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

I think TurboTax may be interfacing to a slightly different type of server. It is getting capital gains/distribution information, not necessarily transactions and positions like Fund Manager and Quicken. Quicken has a named interface for Apex Clearing Corporation, but it doesn't interface with an OFX server for automated retrieval, it requires manual data entry. You can check with your broker, and ask for instructions on getting transaction/positions into Quicken, as that would be the similar situation as with Fund Manager.
Thanks,
Mark
