Cash Account

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby johnreid » Sun Mar 02, 2008 7:14 pm

My brokerage account has a Cash Account. All dividends, distributions and interest goes into this account. Re-invested dividends are noted separately and I have to enter them into the system manually.

My problem is how do I get the dividends, from say XYZ, to show up in the Cash Account. If I enter them into the XTZ account, must I also enter them into the Cash Account? If I enter them into the Cash Account, how do I identify them? Or, do I simply enter them directly into the Cash Account and not enter them into the XYZ account?

Thanks,

johnreid

Hi johnreid,

There are 2 possibilities.

1) Use the "Default Cash Account" feature. In the sub-portfolio's properties you can assign an investment to be your default cash account. You would then record the dividend in XYZ, and Fund Manager will automatically record a corresponding purchase in the assigned default cash account.

2) You can do it all manually. Record a dividend in XYZ and a purchase in the cash investment for the same amount.
Thanks,
Mark

From what I read in the forums, am I right to assume that I have to create one sub portfolio per currency to be able to automatically assign the correct account to transactions in other that my base currency.? E.g. For every JPY transaction to be assigned to the JPY account I have to open a new sub portfolio? FYI: I am talking about automatically importing all transactions.

Or is there a possibility to choose the cash account per imported transaction/currency of position?

Many thanks,
bebby

Hi bebby,

Each sub-portfolio can have its own default cash account assignment. You can also choose "none" if you want to specifically handle the cash account transactions yourself. If you do want to use the default cash account feature, you can only assign this on a sub-portfolio basis. You can't assign a default cash account for each transaction, it is based on the sub-portfolio that investment belongs in.
Thanks,
Mark
