posting transactions to default cash account after the fact.

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ThomasK » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:04 pm

My first few hours of using FM...

How do i get 100 transactions to be posted to the default cash account AFTER i entered in the transactions and THEN figured out that i had to set with Portfolio Properties what the cash account was??

I created a sub portfolio and an investment to be used as the Default Cash Account but I did NOT actually tell FM that a Money Market investment was indeed my cash account to the sub portfolio until just now.

Is there a way to have FM figure this out or do i have to reenter the transactions? Thinking about it now I could "fudge" the end result by creating a new investment and use the "bottom line gain" as of today as a 'cash holding' yes?

Thanks!

Hi ThomasK,

There is no feature in FM to do this for you after the fact. You can manually record the cash side only of these transactions. Whenever you bought some stock, record a sell in cash for the total amount paid. Likewise, record a buy in cash whenever you sold some investment, or received a dividend in cash.

Another option is to export all your transactions to a Generic CSV file and then re-import that file into a new portfolio. Upon import you will be given the choice to use a default cash account.
Thanks,
Mark
