Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby mangier62 » Fri Sep 14, 2012 3:28 pm

I have connected to my broker and downloaded transactions for the last 24 months into 7 subportfolios for each separate account at this brokerage. I had previously downloaded earlier transactions that began 3 years ago into excel and would like to include these earlier transactions with the recent downloaded transactions. I only know how to enter these older transactions manually which is very time consuming because I have about 400 transactions that would need to be entered manually.

Is there a way to import these transactions from a csv files into my existing subportfolios? If so could you please direct me on how to accomplish this.

Thanks.

Hi mangier62,

Yes, you can do this. You would need to use the "Generic" transaction import, which is at "File / Import / Transactions / Generic...". I would suggest going to this dialog and pressing the "Help" button which will explain how to use this import routine. You'll need to format your Excel data into a compatible format, and enter a format string during the import. Save from Excel to a .CSV format, and then import this CSV file. You can't directly import a .XLS file, as that is a binary file.

The generic import is powerful, but is also not trivial to get working without reading the online help, and looking at some of the examples.
Thanks,
Mark
