Generic Import of History

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby CAB » Thu Dec 06, 2012 8:43 pm

Vanguard only supports 18 months of history online, but they created an Excel file with 8 years of history for me to import from. After much manipulation of their data, I have successfully imported the history. Unfortunately, four accounts are out of balance between $98 and $350. (Percentagewise, the accounts are pretty close)

Is there a log file that shows which entries from the .csv were not successfully processed? I found one entry that did not make it in, there may be others as well.

I noticed the import utility does not process entries it doesn't like, such as a BNUM prefixed with a "~". I used this behavior to prevent it from loading entries to my cash accounts that would automatically be created, without having to delete those lines from the original .csv file. I am hoping it logs this behavior to support my reconciliation efforts.

VERY flexible import utility. Love it so far.

Hi CAB,

Sorry, there is no log file showing lines skipped. That would be a good feature though...

For reconciling I would suggest starting off by checking your share balances. You can use the reconciliation wizard. Any investments that have an incorrect share balance will be shown, so then you can at least dig into those specific investments, and see what transactions may be missing or incorrect.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the quick response Mark. I did finish up the reconciliation today. Only one investment that didn't match to the penny. It was a money market (cash) account, and was off by 1.572 cents. I had to enter an offsetting entry, but that was the only one. Not bad for nine years of history.

Now I'm off to start looking at the graphs and reports to see how well FM supports my portfolio analysis efforts! Thanks again for your help.
