Fidelity Netbenefit Transaction download problems

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Kodiak73 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 2:48 am

Hi,

First of all, Love the program!

I've had a sub-portfolio with Fidelity Netbenefits for my 401K configured for sometime and it works nicely.

My wife recently (6 months) also has a 401K with Fidelity Netbenefits. I tried to add a new sub-portfolio and set the transaction retrieve settings similar (obivously different user id/pass). But no transactions are downloaded, even though I know there are 6 months worth of 401K contributions. Interestingly, the userid/pass are different, but the account number is the same. Fidelity Netbenefit seems to use same acct # as displayed on their web page.

Any ideas?

Oh and I updated to latest modules prior to attempting this. One other thing I just tried, through my Netbenefits acct, I actually have a second account which is a company pension mutual fund, but shows up in the netbenefits as well, it has a different acct #. I tried to set this up (never had in the past because the $$ there wasn't worth tracking). This also doesn't seem to work.

Hi Aaron,

Do you get any error messages, or are you just seeing an empty transaction preview dialog? If it is the latter, check your retrieve options. Make sure you are retrieving for all dates, have the option turned on to create new investments as needed, and if neither of those work, also try temporarily turning off "Skip transactions already in Fund Manager", just to make sure they aren't actually already in there.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I don't get any errors, just empty transaction preview dialog. I did try multiple date ranges: exact, larger window, smaller window and still didn't get any.

I did try Skip transactions as well and didn't have any effect either. I went one step further and tried Skip transactions on my working Fidelity Netbenefits acct (my 401K) and got transactions in the preview window and then just canceled. So the original acct works, but not the new one.

I also downloaded from Fidelity Netbenefits web page with QIF. I tried to import via that, but also no transactions. I then dowloaded csv and just looked at it in Excel. There are transactions for the desired date range.

Let me know what I can do to more to help resolve.

Hi Aaron,

Some ideas to try:

1) Do you have on the option to create new investments as needed? This is towards the bottom of the import dialog. You want that option ON.

2) If you look in your log file after retrieving do you see any sign of any transactions? Look in the xmldump.txt log file. For help finding your log file, see the very bottom of this page:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tintrtv.html

3) If you look at your QIF file in Notepad, do you see any sign of any transactions in there? A QIF file is just a text file that you can view with any text editor, like Notepad.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

First, the real data starts on 8/15/12 and goes through 12/31. It's basically
two transactions each month around the 15th and 30th plus or minus a day or two
depending on the month.

I upgraded the transactions module (as per the other thread about supporting
Oregon College Savings).

In the Transactions Retrieve, if I set the date as 6/1/12 to 1/10/13, I got transactions
from 8/15/12 in the preview dialog. So I tried a few more ranges with skip trans off and
then canceled at the preview dialog

5/1/12 to today - no trans
8/1/12 to today - trans for Aug, Sept and one of October (6 total)
7/1/12 to today - trans for Aug, Sept (total 5: there are two on 8/15 same as above, transfer in and a buy)
9/1/12 to today - trans for Sept, Oct and one in Nov (total 5)
11/1/12 to today - trans for Nov, Dec (total 5 as it should be)

So through these different windows I can get all of the transactions but can't get them
all at once. I saved the log files for 5/1/12 to today, 6/1/12 to today and 8/1/12 to today
if you'd like me to share?

Hi Aaron,

Am I reading this correctly that it seems like you're only getting 5 or 6 (in one case none) no matter what the date range? Did you try the "All Dates" option? Maybe for some reason this OFX server is only providing 90 days worth of transactions from the requested start date. I can take a look at the logs, but it might be easier if you did it, and compared to what you're seeing in the preview dialog. The log files are just text files you can view in a text editor, like Notepad. I would suggest looking at the xmldump.txt log, it is the easiest to read. If you search for INVTRANLIST that is the start of the transactions retrieved.
Thanks,
Mark
