Yahoo server issues?

It seems that lately, the Yahoo quote server does not return prices for ^DJI nor ^SPC but both retrieve with Yahoo historical. Any ideas?

Also, do you know of a server and symbol to retrieve the current price of gold and/or silver? (The price per ounce)

The ^DJI current quote hasn't worked on Yahoo for a while. You can use INDU:IND from the Bloomberg server. For some background on this, see:

The ^SPC doesn't appear to be a valid symbol on Yahoo. Are you maybe looking for ^GSPC ? That is working on Yahoo.

For the price of Gold and Silver in USD you can use the symbols:

XAUUSD:CUR
XAGUSD:CUR

from the Bloomberg server.

^SPC is(was?) the Standard & Poors 500 Index

Both ^SPC and ^DJI work fine with Yahoo Historical, but neither work with the regular Yahoo server. Hmmm, curious.

Do the Bloomberg symbols work with both the daily and historical Bloomberg retrievals?

If you use your web browser, and go to finance.yahoo.com, and look up the symbol ^SPC it doesn't have any results. I would avoid using that symbol on Yahoo.

Yes, the symbol INDU:IND works for both current and historical retrieves on Bloomberg / Bloomberg (Historical).
