Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by Dickbel » Thu Mar 05, 2015 10:45 am
Hello;
I recently purchased FM Personal. I live in Canada and bank and invest with TD Waterhouse, WebBroker.
It seems I can't get div. transactions.
The only software supported for download From TD is:
Intuit Quicken 2004 and higher Microsoft Money 2004 and higher Spreadsheet (.CSV)
How do get this into FM P?
Many thanks and Regards

Hi Dick,
I would download either the Quicken or Money file. Either of those is likely an "Open Financial Exchange" (*.OFX, *.QFX) or "Quicken Interchange Format" (*.QIF) file. They may say they are for Quicken or Money, but Fund Manager can also import those files. See the appropriate choice based on the downloaded file format under "File / Import / Transactions" in Fund Manager.
If you have a choice between an OFX/QFX or QIF file, go with the OFX/QFX, as that is a more complete format, with more information.

Mark;
Thanks for your reply.
I tried your recommendation and downloaded a Quicken, QFX file, and imported it into FM and it did not work for me. Also, I downloaded a CSV version and viewed the data; there were no distribution records anywhere within the spreadsheet.
It appears TD is not including transactions and distributions in their download files.
Are you familiar with any other users in Canada and how they get around this?
Regards

Hi Dick,
What specifically happened when you downloaded/imported the QFX file? If you edit the QFX file in Notepad, do you see any signs of your transactions? What settings did you use for the import? Leave it set to the defaults:
All Accounts All Dates Match Account Number / Create Sub-Portfolios All other Import options left ON

Hello Mark;
I simply downloaded a Quicken designated file from my TD brokerage account. I have copied it into text then PDF which I attach herewith for your info.
When the file opens I can only read it as gibberish.
Here is a quote from a TD Customer Service website: "Thanks for your question! OFX is a service offered by a third party not directly affiliated with TD Canada Trust, and as such, we cannot provide instructions on downloading or registration. I would recommend that you contact OFX for instructions on how to download files. You’ll also want to keep in mind that if you share your account information, you will not be protected from loss if this information falls into the wrong hands. I hope you find the above information helpful. Drop by anytime with your questions!"
I will call TD and see what they have to say about all of this.
Regards Dick

Hello again Mark;
I telephoned TD Waterhouse and they basically gave me 'the run around'. This request of mine seemed to hit a very negative note with TD!
The tech person told me they did not support OFX even thought the acronym 'OFX' is all over their downloadable documents.
Can you possibly search your users to determine if there are some Canadians who have worked out a way to get this to work even if I have to purchase a Professional upgrade.
Regards
Dick

Hi Dick,
That PDF file has content that looks like it originated from an OFX file. You don't want to save it into a PDF file before importing though. You want to save it directly from TD to a .OFX file, and then import that .OFX file directly. A .OFX file is just a plain ASCII file, but follows certain formatting rules. You can open a .OFX file in a text editor, like Notepad if you want to view it.
