Hi Mark,
If an investment is hidden, does internet retrieval of price history automatically stop? Or do I also need to uncheck the box to "Retrieve Price" from the Internet Retrieve tab on the investment's properties?
Thanks.

Hi aviator,
The "Hidden" attribute is separate from the "Retrieve Price" attribute. You would need to turn off the "Retrieve Price" option if you don't want to retrieve the price anymore. If you are using "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." it will do both at once for you.
Hi Mark,
The "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." brings up a good point: I have MMAs in several accounts. These MMAs hold cash until the cash can be deployed. Most times the MMA has a zero balance, but at the end of the month it receives (and holds) cash until the cash can be reinvested. If I run the menu command today, the MMA will be hidden because it has a zero balance, which is expected behavior. However, this prompts two questions: 1) At the end of the month, when dividends and interest get paid, will the MMA reappear (that is, be no longer hidden) when it's re-populated with cash? I'm guessing it will not because it was already hidden as as sold investment. Please advise. 2) Further, if I run the "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." today, will investments already hidden (with zero balances) have the "Retrieve Price" attribute removed? I have hundreds of investments that I've hidden -- but did not remove the "Retrieve Price" attribute -- and I'm wondering how to stop retrieving the price since they're already hidden. Thanks again for your help.
Hi aviator,
1) When an investment gets new shares, it doesn't automatically become un-hidden. You can run the "Hide Sold Investments" again to un-hide them. Despite the name you can use this command to hide or un-hide. 2) You can re-run that command and it can be used to hide, un-hide, turn on price retrieve, or turn off price retrieve. Notice the 4 options in that dialog. The definition of "sold" and "non-sold" is based off whether shares were ever owned during the whole date range you enter in that dialog. For example, if you leave the date range "today - today", then anything that owns shares as of today is considered non-sold, and the options related to non-sold investments will be applied. Likewise, anything that doesn't own shares will be considered sold, and any options you check for applying to sold shares will be applied.
Hi Mark,
Thanks a lot for your clear explanation on hidden investments. I ran the "File / File Operations / Hide Sold Investments..." and everything worked as expected. Interesting that I shaved quite a bit of time off my price retrieval... I had many hidden investments for which prices were still being retrieved.
