Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager
by aceball » Tue Sep 29, 2015 7:17 pm
Hi, recently, my Vanguard Mutual fund account was converted to a brokerage account and in the process, all the funds were transferred into my brokerage account, keeping the same shares.
Im trying to make Fund Manager merge the old transaction data (about 6 months worth of deposits and reinstatements) with the new account to keep track of all the data related to this money in one account. Is there a way to merge the transactions of the previous account to the new one?
Thanks, Aceball

Hi Aceball, You could just move the investment files from one sub-portfolio to another, and delete any investments that came in because of a "Transfer In". You can also copy/paste transactions from one investment to another using the Data Register. For help doing this approach, see: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/tut ... video.html

Hi Mark, are you talking about moving the files in windows explorer from one portfolio to another?

Hi aceball, No. Do not move any files on your hard drive. I'm talking about using the Portfolio Editor window to move an investment from one sub-portfolio to another. You probably have a sub-portfolio for your mutual fund account, and one for the new brokerage account? Just drag/drop the investments from the old to the new if you want to move the whole investment. This video tutorial should help you do this: https://youtu.be/p-yjqwyGHtM

Thanks, for now, I have duplicates in the new brokerage account sub folder. Im assuming the next time theres a transaction, there will be a duplicate transaction recorded and Ill just erase the one with the least amount of history, keep the one with all the old transactons (and the new ones that come in monthly) and remove the transaction out of the kept file. Sound reasonable?
Thanks again.

Hi aceball,
How many transactions do you have in the "new" investments? You might just have a "transfer in" transaction. I would move any transactions in the "new" investments into your "old" investments, and then "close" the new investments. Do not move the "Transfer In" transactions, as those aren't necessary since you have all the original transactions already in the "old" investments.
