Different results when sing different quote servers

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby plhfish » Sat Oct 31, 2015 6:52 pm

I experimented with different quote servers and switched from the default server (Yahoo / Yahoo - Historical) to Google real-time and Google Historical. When using the Google quote servers to get historical prices I get different performance data from the portfolio (twice as good :-)), but it's obviously not correct - the yahoo server data gives me more believable portfolio performance data. There are not data retrieval errors, i.e. error log file. Is there something other than setting up the server that I am missing. My accounts are with Schwab from which I download the transactions from.
I want to use the google server since it's 10x faster than Yahoo's.

Hi plhfish,

Look at the actual retrieved prices. If you're just looking at the whole portfolio and the returns are different, compare individual investments, to find which investments are giving different numbers. Once you find an investment with different returns, look at the prices in the Data Register (Prices data type). Somehow you're getting different pricing data if the returns are different. It may be that the symbol needs to be updated as you've changed quote servers. Not all quote servers use the exact same symbols, especially for more unique investments. You can find links to all the quote servers here:

Mark,
Thanks for the quick response. Looks like there is nothing else I need to set up to use a different quote server but I might have a symbol incompatibility causing this issue. Per your suggestion, next step would be for me to need to dig in and look at all individual investments within the portfolios to debug this - there are hundreds... The Yahoo server seems to work fine for me. I might just stick with slower speed...
Thanks again,
Peter Fisher
