Retreive prices is very slow when updating options

Retreive prices is very slow when updating options. The program breezes through the first 100 quotes of stocks and then slows to a crawl when it seems to get to the options. Any suggestions?

Hi Alan,

Sorry, no. That is just the nature of the Yahoo (Options) server. It is much slower than the regular Yahoo server. If you only care about daily updates, you could also just get them from your broker by retrieving transactions. Even if there are no transactions, your prices will still be updated.

With that being said can I just cancel the Retrieve Prices in the middle or is there another way to not have Retrieve Prices update the Options?

Hi Alan,

You can go to the "Investment Properties..." of your options and under the "Internet Retrieve" tab turn off "Retrieve Price". This will prevent them from updating during a price retrieve. You can leave on the option to "Update Price when Retrieving Transactions", so you still get them updated from the broker.

If you trade options a lot, and want to make this the default for all your future option type investments, go to "Options / Internet Settings... / New Investment Defaults..." and for the investment type of "Option", turn off "Retrieve Price".
