Retrieved Distribution - London Stock Exchange

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby philstunell » Fri Sep 29, 2023 7:17 am

I am a new user - evaluating FM - and have a question about retrieved distributions for investments listed on the London stock exchange.
When I retrieve the share price and distribution history, the dividends are inflated by a factor of 100 - giving me a excellent but inaccurate return on my investment!.
As I am using the default settings I think the data is supplied by yahoo, as X p / share - and FM reads it as £ / share
(Share price history appears to be correct)
Is the a 'user error'?
How can I correct or avoid what appears to be systemic error?
Any help and advice will be appreciated.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for trying Fund Manager. I think this is a bug. We recently changed Yahoo (Historical) to divide retrieved ".L" prices by 100, so they import as £, consistent with Yahoo UK & Ireland daily price server. However, we forgot to adjust the dividends/capital gains by the same factor of 100. Could you give me an example of a ticker symbol from the London stock exchange and a specific distribution that we could test with? We'll get the quote module updated to make the distributions import consistent with the pricing (everything in £).
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Phil,

Thank you. We've just updated the quote module to fix this issue with .L symbols and distributions on the Yahoo (Historical) server. They will now be handled consistently with the Yahoo UK & Ireland server, where .L symbols have their price updated in pounds instead of pence.

Version 592 is available now by selecting "Help / Fund Manager on the Web / Check for Updates...".
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
your solution has been verified for my test case RCDO.L - but sadly I am a lot worse off!

Mark,

The dividend history is for RCDO.L is now correct, but I have just noticed that the value is now inflated by a factor of 100!

Hi Phil,

Your price is 499, not 4.99, thus the inflated value, since you're recording everything else in pounds. You can see this in the report you posted, and also if you look in the Data Register under the "Prices" data type.

I suspect the issue is you're retrieving daily prices from "Yahoo" instead of "Yahoo UK & Ireland". Yahoo is the default.

Only the following servers divide the retrieved price automatically by 100 for ".L" symbols:

Yahoo UK & Ireland
Yahoo (Historical)
Yahoo (Adjusted Historical)

You can change the default quote server under "Options / Internet Settings...".
Thanks,
Mark
