FM 2020 not updating anymore

Hi,

I am using the professional Version 2020.16.12.100 and when I try to update it via the Help>check for updates, it says that FM 2020 does not receive upgrades anymore.

However I have quote module 577 and transaction module 259 and it's not retrieving the price of stocks anymore.

Any solution or do I have to upgrade to FM 2024 ?

Hi Richard L,

With the release of FM 2024 we are no longer providing free updates to the quote/transaction modules of older versions. You can read about this policy here. However, the last quote/transaction modules for FM 2020 and 2022 were 592 (quote) and 261 (transaction), and both are still working as of now. The versions you have (577 and 259) are quite old. You can't use the automated way of updating these now since 2024 was released, but you can still manually download the 592/261 versions. To get working quote/transaction modules you can either upgrade to FM 2024 or manually download the last modules for your version.

How to manually update quote/transaction modules for FM 2020 and FM 2022:

Quote module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... eng14x.dll
Transaction module: https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/pro ... anretr.dll

Download each DLL, go to the properties, and "Un-block" them, and then put them in the same folder with your current exe, which is probably:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager

Start the program and verify under "Help / About..." the quote module shows version 592 and the transaction module shows version 261.

may be I'm not remembering well but has your policy concerning the free quote and transaction module updates changed ?

In your policy statement I do read now that "We provide these updates only for the most recent major version" but if I'm not wrong i remember that quote and transaction modules updates were kept free for the last and second-last major Fm version.
In fact even in your previous answer you say that updates were free for 2022 and 2020 version as long as 2024 version was not yet released.

Hi Arrow,

Yes, you're right, we did change this policy prior to releasing FM 2022. We used to offer free updates for the last 2 major versions, but prior to releasing FM 2022 we changed the policy to only offering updates to the current major version. We grandfathered in FM 2020, as at the time of FM 2020's release, the policy was 2 major versions. This is why we were still maintaining FM 2020 while FM 2022 was available and had a published policy of only updates to the current major version.

I followed your steps to manually add the file in the folder but it's still showing the old version in about. I have also checked and the files are not blocked by Windows.

Would you know what is the blocker in such case ?

Hi Richard L,

If you look at the "Properties..." of each of those 2 files, make sure they aren't being blocked. By default, they probably will be, so you have to un-block them. This is on the "General" tab of the Properties dialog box. Also, make sure the downloaded files are named exactly:

tranretr.dll
inteng14x.dll

and located in the same folder with your FM.exe file. On the "Properties..." dialog, on the "Details" tab, verify the "File version" of tranretr.dll is 261.0.0.1 and inteng14x.dll is 592.0.0.1.

I am really disappointed to see that prior versions (I'm using 2022) are no longer supported for updates. I've been using Fund Manager forever, well, since windows 3.1 on AOL how many years ago? And thank you for providing the TDA to Schwab instructions - I just had to go through that this past week.
