Vanguard fund shares converted from investor to admiral

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby rmiz » Mon Jul 08, 2024 6:01 pm

Recently had some Vanguard fund shares converted from investor shares to admiral shares.
The new fund has a new symbol. Someone suggested I use a spit to convert the shares. After the split is done, do I save the new split details as a new file or do I revise the symbol on the old file.
When a stock splits, the stock symbol stays the same,

Hi Regis,

You could either transfer all the shares to a new investment, or use the split, and keep everything in the existing investment. I'd suggest using the split, and just keeping a single investment. In your existing investment, record the split transaction, and change the name/symbol/cusip properties. There are no new files involved, and in general when you record a transaction (like a split), you aren't prompted for where to save, it just saves in the investment where you recorded the transaction.
Thanks,
Mark
