Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby adennis » Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:36 am

Hi I am a refugee from MS Money am trying to find and evaluate a suitable replacement for tracking UK (& European) funds also allowing for multiple accounts.

I have been able to test import one account from MSM together with historic transactions.

Is there a known way of exporting then importing historic prices?

I have (eventually) worked out that FM seems to like the Yahoo symbol rather than ISIN and have been able to get a one day price update. Unsure as to accuracy of Yahoo (other posts) but I cant get historic price download to work at all - Default Historical Server set to Yahoo (Historical). Is there an example i can follow or can u assist with set up for GB0003879185GBP = Fidelity South East Asia Fund.

Any other UK user comments on UK Fund price sources greatly appreciated

thanks in anticpation

Hi adennis,

Unfortunately I don't believe MS Money is capable of exporting historical prices, so you'll need to get them from another source. To find out if there are historical prices on any of our supported quote servers, visit this page:

http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/intrtv.html

Follow the links to any of the "Historical" quote servers, and see if you can look up historical pricing for the investments you own. Determine what ticker symbol that server uses, and then record that symbol in your Fund Manager investment, and then retrieve prices from that server. You set the global default historical server under "Options / Internet Settings...".
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark,

I had worked out the how bit but it was the quality of the price servers suggested that suprised. Yahoo UK and Yahoo historical simply didnt cut it for upto date prices for UK funds. I had subsequently tried Bloomberg (and Historical) this works very well with right upto date prices.

Perhaps there maybe a need for some form of Matrix / or Message board that attempts to capture real user experiences of price servers and what they can and cant deliver. Collectively we have the answer.

So far so good an the the evaluation.

Hi adennis,

Interesting, I don't recall this problem with UK fund prices on Yahoo before... Were the prices just wrong, or delayed in getting posted? Do you have a sample ticker for each of Bloomberg/Yahoo that I could use to test this problem?
Thanks,
Mark

An example would be:

Fidelity South East Asia Fund Accumulation

GB0003879185GBP - yahoo Uk

FIDESEA:LN - bloomberg

no price was automatically downloading from yahoo

yahoo now website showing 511.80

Bloomberg shows 550.9

Fidelity 550.9

511.8 was last showing as 25th Aug as per Bloomberg Historical

kind regards

Hi adennis,

Interesting, I see this too. Yahoo states their quote is for Aug 14, which is obviously quite outdated...
Thanks,
Mark
