Problem with Vanguard

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby dwmosley » Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:05 am

I'm trying to set up my Vanguard 401k in Fund Manager by downloading the transaction history. It seems to be connecting, and Vanguard is using the 401k plan# as the account number, which seems to be correct. No error messages occur when I connect. However, I get no transactions, positions, prices, etc. Even after connecting 3-4 times. So I did see your messages about connecting twice the first time... oh, and I am using the latest transaction plug-in, since I just did the check for updates routine on Fund Manager.

Any thoughts?

Hello dwmosley,

Since you're not getting any errors, here are some reasons your transaction preview dialog could be empty:

1) You've selected a date range to retrieve where you don't have any transactions. For the first time retrieving, make sure you choose the "All Dates" option.

2) There are only transactions for new investments that you haven't set up yet, and you don't have the "Create New Investments as Needed" option turned on. Make sure you have that option turned on when you retrieve for the first time, when you want FM to set up any new investments for you.
Thanks,
Mark

A) I tried selecting different date ranges, including the all dates options

B) I have the box for creating new investments checked.

It's very strange. Perhaps the Vanguard site is having issues?

Hi dwmosley,

I just did a test retrieve from Vanguard, and their transaction server appears to be working fine.

You are using transaction module 126, right? See "Help / About...".

Could it be possible you've entered a different account number than you're trying to retrieve? You can try erasing the account number in the sub-portfolio property, and then doing a retrieve. FM will give you a list of all available account numbers for the supplied username and password.

You can also look in the log files to see the information returned from Vanguard, maybe that will provide a hint. For instructions on looking at the logs, see the "Technical Details" section at the very bottom of this page:
