I'm trying to retrieve transactions for all my brokerage accounts from USAA - it has been working fine for several years, now - and the last time I did it was on Oct 21, 2007....however, USAA has made changes to their system, such that the web GUI is different - and now, I can retrieve transactions for the 3 retirement brokerage accounts, but am unable to do so for my 3 non-retirement accounts.....I get a window from Fund Manager in response that says 'Failed to retrieve portfolio', followed by the Broker, the Account Number, and the User ID. I called USAA - they indicated they could not help - non of the data used to login has changed, and the account numbers have not changed, either. Help!
Hi Terry0,
The web interface is separate from the OFX interface used to retrieve transactions, so that in itself shouldn't cause a problem. The OFX interface appears to still be the same, as I just checked. If you are still experiencing this problem, please take a look at the 'ofxretr.txt' file in this folder: Windows XP and earlier: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Fund Manager Windows Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager Look at this file right after retrieving just one of the problematic accounts. You can send me the contents of this file if there isn't a clearly defined problem shown.
Hello Mark - I just tried again for one of the non-retirement brokerage accounts - the ofxretr.txt file contains this text:
OFXAdapter: Unknown Exception: Unable to build an atomic field "UniqueID": value is too short, expected at least 1 characters but got 0. I understand what you mean about the web GUI not affecting the OFX interface - I just thought knowing they have doen a mojor system upgrade may be helpful. But this is so weird - as I mentioned - 3 retirement brokerage accounts work just fine, but the 3 non-retirement accounts do not. Since you mentioned the OFX interface, that may be broken, as I also tried to download an OFX file using USAA's web GUI download command - which is what I used before you supported USAA transaction retrieve - but that doesn't work anymore now - it downloads a 1k OFX file - when I try to import it using Fund Manager, Fund Manager returns a window that says: path/filename does not appear to be a valid OFX/QFX file. Thanks for your help
Hi TerryO,
Interesting. When you downloaded the OFX file manually, did you save it to a file somewhere on your computer? What if you go open that file with Notepad? Maybe you're getting a similar error in this file when you download it manually via their website?
Mark - you are right - I opened the downloaded OFX file with Notepad - I've copied and pasted below what it contains:
OFXAdapter: Unknown Exception: Unable to build an atomic field "UniqueID": value is too short, expected at least 1 characters but got 0. Hope this helps.....
Hi Terry0,
This looks like USSA is having a problem with their OFX script for your non-retirement accounts. I would suggest contacting them, and showing them the contents of this downloaded OFX file. I suspect when they fix that problem, the problem of retrieving transactions through their OFX server will also be corrected.
