Current Default Currency Display and Quick Switch

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Here is a couple of ideas for future releases:
1. Add info about current currency template in report headings and footer total, graphs headings, etc. I often get confused about current currency, especially when the fx rate is close to one.
2. Further, it would be great to be able to quickly toggle between the two latest currency templates with a simple Ctrl-<whatever> command similar to Ctrl-x for exchange rate adjustment on/off. Additionally, another Ctrl-<> could be used to circularly switch to the next defined currency template.

Thanks for a great product!

Hi Nisse,

Thanks for the ideas/feedback. Is there some report that is not showing a currency symbol where you'd like to see one? In the Advisor version you can customize the report headers, and add Currency as a field anywhere in the header. In all other versions, there should generally be a currency label in one of the relevant report column labels. If we added the currency template name to the report header/footer would that provide a better solution that just putting the currency on a value based column? Or, maybe just adding the currency symbol into the report header would make it more obvious?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark, thanks for the quick response.

I am new to FM, so please bear with me if I am misunderstanding something, but several reports are missing information about default currency, including Portfolio Performance and Investment Performance. Knowing the default currency is even more important for reports with no value field, like ROI Yield or Monthly Performance, as the numbers themselves give less of a hint of the used report currency. In my opinion, the cleanest solution would be to include the currency in parenthesis after the header (or sub-header) and in the footer. It is important to have it in the footer for people like me that usually have a report active to show sub-portfolios current gain throughout the day, with only the footer summary row showing below other windows (hiding the full report). I also think it is better to have the currency symbol in one and the same place(s) on all reports so you know where to look for it. Not having it in the column headings has the advantage of making the heading shorter and hence not unnecessary adding width to a column. I am a small private investor so the advisor version is out of reach for me. I use the professional version.

Here is an additional thought for you. Put the current currency within parenthesis in the main window title bar, after the portfolio file name, including an indication if the exchange rate adjustment is on or off.

Hi Nisse,

Okay, thanks. I'm more leaning towards putting it in the header somewhere, more directly visible and associated with that particular report...
Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

I agree, in the header and footer is the way to go for report. My latest thought was to also have it in the title where it always is visible when working in the he portfolio editor and data register.

Hi Nisse,

A tip along these lines... Right mouse click on the toolbar (where all the icons are, below the menu), and add "Exchange". This is a button that will visually show depressed based on whether you have "View / Exchange Rate Adjusted" turned on or off. You can also use it to quickly toggle this option.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I agree with the ideas here :

1) Default Currency more visible in reports.

2) In the Portfolio Editor too, knowing which is the default currency. In the status bar, maybe ?

3) Plus a request : when switching between templates, I think this should not be considered as a modification of the main portfolio. I.E., no message to save the portfolio when exiting Fund Manager, because it is a daily task like toggle the exchange rate button on and off.

Another great feature these templates!

Thanks.

Hi Djobydjoba,

Thanks for the feedback. This seems to be a needed feature.

Portfolio files (*.mm4) remember currency settings, so when you change currency templates, you're changing values that are memorized as part of a portfolio file. We could ignore this in the case of currency templates. Have to think about that...
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, please... As far as I'm concerned, switching between templates is a command used on a daily basis, for market analysis. I'm not alone I presume, because the request of Nisse for a quick keyboard shortcut too.

I save the portfolio infrequently and only with extra cautious, because the global setup, graphs, reports have to be like I want at the opening of Fund Manager.

You're right, I can ignore the message, but have to think then if it's there only because of a template change or because a investment has been added or moved.. Error-prone.

Thanks.
