I am trying to get a total $ value for all dividends received over time. I am getting a sum of zero from a dividend-paying stock I have owned for 3 years. All the dividends are listed on the data register but they are not being added up.

Hypothesis: The dividend variable is defined as everything received since the last purchase. However, I am having all dividends reinvested, so I think FM perceives the last purchase as being last month, so no dividends prior to that are being counted. I can't figure out a work-around for this

Hi Mary Kennedy,

Which report/field are you looking at? If you run a Distribution Summary report, that should show all your dividends, whether they were reinvested or distributed.
Thanks,
Mark

That is what I had thought, and it worked for most stocks but not all. I am using the variable called "Dist dist-C (end)." For most stocks, got a sum but there were a couple where it didn't work. I can see that the distributions were acknowledged in the data register, and it even says "dividend Reinvstment," but the report lists zero for Dist dist-C (end)

Hi Mary Kennedy,

That field only shows distributions from the shares that are still currently owned as of the report's ending date. if you're looking for a sum of distributions received within a certain time period, use:

Total distributions (between)

or

Dividend distributions (between)

The first gets all distribution types, and the second one only shows dividend type distributions.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mary Kennedy,

I can't see the headers or the date. Are you sure you're looking at the right investment? Is the report's ending date after your distribution?
Thanks,
Mark
