Improving ALERTS visibility

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

I think the alerts functionality is great but it is difficult to see just where things are at visually across the portfolio. At the monent I am using the column "Alert Distance" but it takes a few moments to get my head around whether it is a good alert I have set-up or a bad one, not to mention which of the alerts I have set-up that it is referring to.

I would suggest adding "colour highlight" as an option for an alert such that I could select light green for a good alert (eg made 25% profit) and bright green for a great alert (eg reached my sell target). Conversely I could select orange for a bad alert (eg price falling 5% below purchase) and red for a bad alert (time to sell).

Another enhancement would be to be able to see more than 1 alert in the portfolio editor. If I have a lower and an upper alert then at the moment it is difficult to easily interpret the limited data you provide in the editor.

thanks

Hi Glenn2,

Thanks for the ideas/feedback. I can understand this when you have many alerts set up. Hopefully you've seen the graphing capability where you can overlay "Alert Markers" on your graphs? This allows you to see at an individual investment level, how all the alerts are doing.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the reply. I do see this as a drawback in the usability of the software. Is there a plan to improve this in the near future? I also just discovered that once an alert has been triggered then it disappears from the "Alert Column" in the portfolio editor. Is there anyway to keep it there?

I need a means of being able to scan down my list of investments and get an overview of what needs my attention and what does not. I wanted to use the alerts for this but it seems to fall short of my needs. The %change in investment value since purchase is one indicator that is useful but as I have different targets and alerts for each investment this also falls short of what I need. Can you tell me how you expect people to use your software to get this "dashboard" view I am referring to?

thanks

Hi Glenn2,

There are no immediate plans for adding more alert functionality, but if you have some ideas on what to add/change/improve, please do let us know. We can consider them for a future update. Changes like this generally are only incorporated into major updates, like 10.0, 11.0, etc.

The "Alerts" related fields in the Portfolio Editor are just meant to give a quick overview of your closest/active alert. When you have multiple alerts set for the same investment, these will only provide information on the closest/active alert. There really is no "dashboard" view of all your alerts. Probably the closest thing is to use the graphs and have the alert markers turned on. You can scroll through investment based graphs, and visually see where the price is at, compared to all of your active alerts.

Of course if any alert does actually trigger, you have control over how to be notified. See "Options / Alerts...".
Thanks,
Mark
