Default directory for saving new investments

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

I have a couple of separate portfolios that I maintain on my system. I keep the portfolio data in separate directories so that I can backup and restore them independently. I noticed that when I switch between portfolios the default directory for saving new investments does not change automatically (I once accidentally saved a new investment for portfolio A in the directory I use for portfolio B). It would be nice if the directory used to save new investments would change automatically when you switched portfolios.

Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven,

Okay, thanks for the feedback.

You may consider just keeping all your data in a single folder. It makes things easier. You can still backup/restore independently by using the "File / Backup..." and "File / Restore..." on each of your two portfolios. You may also consider just having 1 portfolio file, and 2 sub-portfolios. This way, you can have all your data available, and just choose which sub-portfolio to graph/report on. You also only have to update prices once, instead of twice.
Thanks,
Mark

Your first approach, keeping all the files in one directory, sounds fine to me. I didn't realize that only the files associated with the open portfolio would be backed up.

Thanks.
