What I miss

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi,

nice programm which I have used for a while now.

What I miss:

1.) Space for a short comment directly linked to an investment and showing up in investment table

2.) A possibility to link (via right mouse click) to news for the investment in question

I am sure this would not be difficult to implement
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the feedback. A couple thoughts that may help here...

1) You can use the "Description" field for an investment. It is a property of an investment, and you can add this field to the Portfolio Editor list view using "View / List Columns...". I'm guessing this is what you were calling the "investment table".

2) There is a "Web News" feature. I just checked, and realized this menu command is not available from within the Portfolio Editor. We'll plan to fix this. It is however available from within reports listed by investment or any investment based graph window. Right mouse click on the investment, and choose "Web News...". It will open up a browser window and show you news on that investment. You can customize the link for news under "Options / General Preferences... / Menus". Click the "Help" button in this dialog for some explanation.
Thanks,
Mark

Dear Mark

thanks for this. I see your program has many hidden qualities. As to the web news link - can it be edited? It seems to use the RIC code as a search parameter but links to Yahoo, even if it is, for example, a Bloomberg code.....

Thanks and have a nice day
Matt

Hi Mark, me again: Just have read your mail properly and see that I can edit the link. Foolish me. As I said, many hidden and not so hidden qualities in your program. Apologies and wishes Matt

I was searching the forums precisely with the same idea as Matt.

Even if there are a few very limited possibilities, it would make Fund Manager more useful if there was a more useful and extensive way to comment what we do. I'm thinking of:

- A dedicated tab in the properties of an investment, where not one but several (1-n) urls could be stored (links to sites, comments, analyst remarks, research or other publications, etc);
- More extended possibilities to add comments to several things like:
  • Buy, sell transactions (more than about 30 chars)
  • Stock properties, besides the URLs above, one or a list of comment fields
  • Report creation (add a comment with a saved report, shown on the report or not)
  • Customer (I would think - in the advanced versions of FM)
- And finally, a way to link to a local document, also in the properties of the investments, and of the portfolio. I mean a full or relative link to a locally stored document, xlsx, docs, pdf....

I don't think this would be really hard to code, but feel it would even more improve FM's chances to become the one-stop place for all that we do around investments.

I'd be curious to hear what others think.
Tnx.

Mark,

Following up on this thread, I am curious about how other users may be addressing some of these items using the simple "notes" area.

Is there a way to generate a note "report" at a portfolio level?

Thanks,
PWatson

Hi PWatson,

You can view all your notes in an "Investment Transactions" report. If you want to view only notes, you can turn on a report filter, so you only select "Notes" to display. Look at the "Filter..." button in the Report Settings dialog.
Thanks,
Mark
