AAII Portfolio Management Software Comparison

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

AAII has just updated their Portfolio Management Software Comparison Report. It can be found at http://www.aaii.com/computerized-invest ... e?a=ci0916

As in the past, it seems to be very biased toward the product they give a discount on: Investment Account Manager. I'm not sure if it would be appropriate for you to respond to the report on their forums, but I'm just letting you know in case you think it wise.

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for sharing this link. I'm glad they've included us in their review again. I did post some corrections in the comments section.
Thanks,
Mark

I read the review, too. But they lost me at the beginning when I noticed they didn't include the Advisor version in their review.

As a long time user of Quicken and former user of IAM I can say that Fund manager is superior to both for tracking investments. I found the performance and reliability of IAM to be iffy at best.

I used Portfolio Manager 5, the sister product to IAM, before switching to Fund Manger. Unless IAM is very different from Portfolio Manger 5 (and my understanding was the they were almost identical) it had almost no graphic capabilities - only a few pie charts. Nothing compared to the rich suite of graphs in even the personal edition of Fund Manager. These graphs are hugely useful in tracking a portfolio, but the AAII article totally disregards Fund Manager's capability in this area. If someone will confirm that IAM is still lacking graphic charting capabilities I will add a comment to that effect to the article.

It's hard to take seriously any comparison written by a company that reviews its own product. There's an obvious bias that's hard to overcome while reading the "review".

I read the AAII review as well. I didn't think it was all that negative. The feature I like about FM, and what makes it best for me, is the ability to rebalance portfolios without having to export to Excel to accomplish this. It's a great product.
