CSV Import Transactions missing in dialogue

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ljbc01 » Wed Oct 09, 2013 12:00 pm

FM Professional V12.6
Windows 7
New user setting up historical data.

I am using CSV import to add new investments and transactions.
I create CSV files in FM format and use the File/Import/Transactions/Generic dialogue. When the "Preview Import Transaction" is displayed the only transactions displayed are "BUY"s. Nothing else, no SELL, DIST-D, SPLIT etc. - WIERD!!

When I do exactly the same procedure on my Windows XP system it works fine - all transactions in the CSV file are displayed and imported into the Investment.

I have attached several display captures and the CSV file for reference.
Note: i have tried to import transactions for other investments and they all act the same.

Sure hope you can assist with this.

Cheers - Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,

I see 2 problems:

1) You need to use TRAN instead of TAC in your input format string

2) You must have values for all of ANUM, BNUM, and CNUM, even if they are 0. They can't be blank.
Thanks,
Mark

Thank you for pointing out those goof-ups. That does fix it up.

However, it does leave one strange result of my testing. The fact that, with "TAC" and not "TRAN" in the format field, FM still manages to import all the transactions.

The empty BNUM & CNUM fields caused the import dialogue to ignore those transactions. The "BUY" transactions were the only ones with all three xNUM entries filled. Once I corrected the xNUM entries in my data file it doesn't seem to matter whether I use "TRAN" or "TAC" in the format. The whole file imports correctly.

I attached an updated import data CSV file.

I leave it to you to decide if it is a bug or not...

Thanks again, I'm a happy camper now

Hi Lloyd,

Glad you got it working. I agree, it shouldn't have imported anything actually because TAC isn't in your data line...
Thanks,
Mark
