Fund Manager 2014.

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

I downloaded FM 2014 and, so far, looks very impressive. In particular, the biggest hits for me are:
1) Internet retrieval of Asset Types and Sectors.
2) Dividend income allowed to be set by each payment date.
3) Master password at the mm4 level.

While a lot of new functionality has been introduced to v 2014, I was hoping that a couple of my pet peeves would have been incorporated into the new version:
1) Allow users to include a row on all reports that show values for hidden investments. In other words, if the sum of all rows don't equal the total (because of hidden investments), then include an italicized row that says "Sum of Hidden Investments" and the amount that hidden investments contributed to the total.
2) Would have liked to have seen the Income Schedule report subtotal by date (month, quarter, what have you).

Overall, v 2014 is impressive. Congratulations to you and your team for the worthwhile improvements.

Hi aviator,

Thanks for taking a look at the beta, and the feedback. Glad you like some of the improvements. As always, we aren't able to do everything we'd like, but thanks for the continued feedback.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping my suggestions listed above will soon make it into one of your future releases. I think they're important, and I hope you do too.

You might want to consider moving this thread to the Feedback section. I inadvertently posted it here, but as I use v 2014 more, I can see this developing into more "feedback" than "general".

I hope you'll consider all my critiques as what I intend them to be -- positive feedback that will simply make FM better. So here we go:

1) I like it that hidden investments now have a de-colorized icon. I'm able to save valuable real estate by removing the Hidden (Yes/No) column. Would like to see this go one step further by making the entire row a different color/font/boldness/italicization. As I scroll horizontally across the screen, the left-most FM icon soon gets lost and I no longer have an easy method to determine which securities are hidden and which aren't.

2) When I click on the Server Status button on the Portfolio Editor toolbar, the Transaction Retrieve Module data appears to be out of date. My message says "Currently using Transaction Retrieve Module 190, latest available is 183."

While v 2014 is rich in new features, it's unlikely I'll be using all of them (no need, for example, for multi-currency). However, as I use the new release more, I'll add to this list.

Thanks for listening.

Hi aviator,

As you can see, I've moved this to the "Feedback" forum...

I do agree the prior items would be nice improvements. There are many factors that go into the decision on what gets implemented. Unfortunately we have limited resources, so must pick/choose what new features we invest our efforts into.

On that status issue, the beta comes with transaction module 190, but the feature that allows you to download updates only has 183. (You are more updated than what it says for the latest available version.) It will stay way until the official release. It has to do with maintaining transaction module support for the 11.x versions until FM 2014 is released. For now, just ignore that discrepancy. It will work as expected once 2014 is officially released.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Now that passwords are used at the file level instead of the security level, would it be possible to have the portfolio name displayed on the password box? I use two different .mm4 files, each with a different password. Would be very helpful to have the file name displayed.

Hi aviator,

Okay, we can add the portfolio filename to this dialog for the next release.
Thanks,
Mark
