Stock Swap Acquisition

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby moonlighter » Sun Oct 12, 2014 7:19 pm

Having trouble correctly booking a stock swap acquisition. Company XYZ has acquired all of my shares in ABC. There is no cash involved in the transaction, strictly stock swap. I do not want to book the transaction as a sale of ABC shares because that would create a capital gain. FM seems to lack the functionality to record a stock swap. Or is there a way to do it? Thanks.

I got it, Transfer Between can be used to record stock swaps. Great.

Hi moonlighter,

Another way to do it that I prefer over using transfers is to simply record a split, and a name change. Record the split at a ratio of <new_shares> for <old_shares> and then change the investment's name/symbol/etc under the properties. You can also record a note on this date to remind you of what happened and when.
Thanks,
Mark
