custom number field average includes hidden transactions

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager reports.

Postby drwehby » Mon Oct 27, 2014 5:56 am

Hi Mark,
I've created a custom investment property of type NUMBER, and then selected the combination method AVERAGE to see the average from this report column at the bottom of the report. This average at the bottom of the report, however, is including values in this custom property from hidden investments in the same portfolio. The same thing happens if I use the combination method SUM (I've not tested the others). What should I do to only see at the report bottom the combination from the current, non-hidden investments?
Thanks.

Hi drwehby,

That is how they are intended to work. When reporting any figures for totals, any hidden investment values are still included in the overall totals. Often they are 0, like for value, but they are factored into historical performance calculations. You could either set this custom investment property to an appropriate number (0?) on your hidden investments, or if you only want to include certain investments, you could copy them into their own sub-portfolio. You could also use categories, to put the hidden investments in their own category, and sub-total your report by category (asset type, goal, sector).
Thanks,
Mark
