Can't get fund prices from Morningstar UK server

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby Exspextations » Sat Dec 20, 2014 7:13 am

I have a fund that the Morningstar UK website lists, but that I cannot download prices for using either the ISIN code (GB0031277790) or the code in the URL (VAUSA05W7Z). In each case I get the message:

Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 473
Retrieving from server: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)
Requesting: "GB0031277790"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)

or

Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 473
Retrieving from server: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)
Requesting: "VAUSA05W7Z"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)

Any idea why the prices are not downloading?

Unfortunately, I can't find the fund listed on any other server.

Hi Exspextations,

I see the same problem. It should retrieve off the "id" value from the URL, which is the VAUSA05W7Z you mentioned. We will investigate, and post what we find back here.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Exspextations,

It looks like that ticker is not a "Unit Trust" available in the UK. It is a price quotes on that server, but FM only works with "Unit Trusts" from that server. For example, you can retrieve this:

http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/s ... F00000SJQE

but if you look at the id you were using:

http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/s ... VAUSA05W7Z

it says it isn't a fund available in the country GBR. That quote is available here:

http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/snapsho ... VAUSA05W7Z

but that isn't the URL being used by Fund Manager. Fund Manager is accessing their section that provides fund quotes, and this symbol is only available in a different section of their site.
Thanks,
Mark

Dear Mark,

Thanks for the feedback. Bizarre that Morningstar UK states that it is not a fund available in GBR as it is the fund in which my son invests for his personal pension scheme in the UK - a pension to which he can only contribute as long as he remains a UK tax payer. I guess I will just have to update manually as I can't find it quoted on any of the other servers included in FM.

Regards,

Dear Mark,

Eventually found the fund under Bloomberg - took some finding as Bloomberg changed the fund name and then failed to list it when searching for the fund under the institution that issued it.

Problem solved.
