In one of my accounts i owned both KMI and KMR, i was able to convert my KMR into KMI shares when KMI consolidated KMR into KMI. I now have two line items of KMI under this account. How do i consolidate the two KMI's each with a reinvested dividend history under one symbol that would refect all the numbers from each "separte" subaccount. Thanks Chuck
Hi Chuck,
It would probably be best to keep them as 2 separate investments. This maintains the full accurate transaction history, from before the consolidation. There is nothing wrong with having 2 investments of the same security in an account. If you did want to move them into a single investment to keep things simple, you could use the "Transfer Between" wizard. This will move all the shares from one investment to the other, and maintain your tax cost basis. After you transfer all the shares from one investment to the other, you can hide the investment with zero shares. If you do keep them as 2 investments, and want to see a consolidated value for the security, when you run a report, list by "Symbol" instead of "Investment", and Fund Manager will combine the 2 investments into a single report line item for you.
