Reinvesting certificates of deposit

Hello.

I would like to know how to re-invest certificates of deposit.
When it expires, how can I keep it as an investment and the interest payment to be included on the re-investment?

For example I have 100 000 as a 1-month CoD with 2% return. On expiration it will become 102 000.
I want this investment to be placed again for one month at 2%.

In addition, is there a way to see graphically the value of the investment? The investment is recorded with a price of $1, and the price remains constantly the same, but I cannot see the investment gaining value on the graph, both on the single investment and on the total portfolio.

Hi Nicolas,

In your example, you would record a Reinvested Distribution of type "Interest Income" for $2,000, 2,000 shares, and a price of $1. Now, you will own 102,000 shares at a price of $1.

If you got your CD principle back, and you bought it again, you could record a sell of 100,000 shares, and then a buy of 100,000 shares, or you could just omit both of these buy/sell transactions, since you are leaving it invested.

Graphs do not plot accrued interest, but they will plot your reinvested interest once it is recorded as a transaction. Once you record the above transaction you will see the value increase from 100,000 to 102,000. You can use the "Value" graph of investments to see it.
