Update problems

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I've just updated from an older version (10.x) of Fund Manager to the 2014 version.
So far it was fairly good .... UNTIL I WENT TO TRY AND BACKUP DATA OR EXIT!!!

Now it acts like I NEVER have updated all the the per mutual fund data.
Every time I enter ... It always asks me to convert New Investment File Format
and it "appears" to successfully convert the files ... but clearly it DID NOT!!!
When I try to save all the investments ... I always get ACCESS Denied
(Data is stored in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Fund Manager\ ...).
So, I can't do backups and it almost looks like this is not really saving updates
of my data.

So, what's going on?

Very frustrated and irritated with a product that I "used to like"

Solved my own problem .... I ran as administrator and that resolved things (silly Windows)

Hi ichamp81,

This sounds like you are saving data in a location that your user doesn't normally have write permission access to. Is that path you mentioned your normal "My Documents \ Fund Manager" folder? It looks like an old XP path. I would suggest cleaning this up by moving your data to a regular data folder, where you have write permission without having to run as an admin. To do this you can use "File / File Operations / Set Data Location..." and use this to move all your data to your current "My Documents \ Fund Manager" folder. On Windows Vista or later, this is a path like:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Fund Manager

The dialog box for this command will default the new location to this path, so you can probably just accept the default, and move all your data there. Once you do, exit Fund Manager, and re-start it without the "Run as Administrator" option. It is best to not have to check this, so you aren't running it with more permissions than necessary.
