Performance Reports don't total properly

I'm trying to understand the total line on a performance report. The line doesn't appear to total the columns above. I exported into a spreadsheet to do the totals myself. Of the 5 columns: Beg Value + Acc Int, Invested, Distrib., End Value + Acc Int, & Gain, only End Value + Acc Int totals properly. Am I missing something about what this last line is for? The report summarizes a sub portfolio of fixed income investments If that makes a difference.
Hi SteveP,
If you're looking at the Contributions/Withdrawals columns, those won't sum. Contributions/withdrawals are relative to each line item in a report. For example, if you buy a stock with cash, you will see a contribution amount for the stock line, and a withdrawal amount for the cash line, but since there was no portfolio level contribution/withdrawal, these amounts will not be reflected on the portfolio line.
Think what SteveP is looking for is a report that is commonly given by custodians
Would also be interested in this type of report. Guessing what he has in mind and using a example Account No 123 Time Period Beg Val + Acc Int Contrib/Withdraw Distrib End Value + Acc Int Q1 2014 1,000 200 100 1,350 Q2 2014 1,300 -300 70 1,170 Q1 activity is Starting 1,000 topup 200 coupon 100 and acc int 50 Q2 activity is starting 1,300 redeem 300 dividend 70 acc int 50
Hi marathon,
The Portfolio Performance and Executive Summary reports both show what you're describing. They show the starting value, additions/subtractions, and what you ended up with for a period. The ending value of one period is the same as the starting value for the next period, assuming you set your dates appropriately. For example: Jan 1 - Mar 31 and then Apr 1 to Jun 30. The ending Mar 31 market value will be the same as the Apr 1 starting market value.
Hi marathon,
I believe SteveP's question was why the columns don't total for contributions/withdrawals. The totals are shown for each sub-portfolio, including the top/reporting sub-portfolio in the totals line. Values for contributions/withdrawals at the sub-portfolio level are shown, they just don't necessarily sum from the investments. They are relative to the portfolio itself, and don't include internal money movement. If you don't want to see the investment level detail, you can set the report to list by "<None (totals only)>". Each line in this report is self-consistent, so the beginning + additions/gains = ending + withdrawals.
