"Income" on the investment property tab

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hi Mark, (new user here getting familiar with the program...)

I notice a "Income Tab" on all investment properties dialogs... It is associated with a particular investment holding. Example might own/track a MLP Pipeline holding; say, KYN symbol (Kayne Anderson, MLP). One could own KYN in multiple portfolios within FM... It pays quarterly... Some pay monthly... some pay annually, etc.

Do I need to repeat the tab's data entries in every account/sub-portfolio where the holding resides? For a holding that might pay monthly, and be held in 3 or 4 accounts, that is a WHOLE lot of data entry... 1/12 the annual payout in each of 12 months X the number of places the equity is held... Am I missing something easy here?

There are other dialog check boxes on this tab that allow attributes to populated across multiple accounts; like Asset Class, Investment Goal, etc... I don't see a check box to populate Dividend expectations using the same symbol over multiple accounts...

Thanks, BJ/Clivusmul

Hi BJ,

If you're using the Advisor version you can, but in the Professional/Personal version you would need to enter it on a per-investment basis. In the Advisor version there is an "Edit / Symbol List..." command that allows you to enter all the investment properties on a per-symbol basis, so the properties get applied to all investments with that symbol.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark...

I was afraid you would respond as you did; it's unfortunate...

I read many comments on this forum concerning this lack of capability. It's nice to see future income expectations as it then allows FM to compete with Broker websites, etc... Most of them offer this ability. I also understand that account transaction downloads will show this distribution in real-time and in history but to have the "Income" tab on the holding property dialog box to need extensive manual input of identical cells over a huge range of accounts is onerous in the least...

Regarding the "Advisor Version"... That is a very expensive solution for a single but active investor. Quicken does this easily for about the same cost as FM Personal Version. I can appreciate not having this ability in the "Personal" version as it is only $89 but to pay over $300 (including sales tax) for the PRO-Version and then need to spend days inputting data manually is a hassle to say the least.

I highly recommend a future version include a tab check-box on the "Income" page similar to the ones already there to populate dividend payouts in addition to asset class, investment goal, and sector participation.

This would be a great labor savings and I strongly believe it should be included in the "Professional" version.
My 2 cents...
Cordially, BJ

Hi BJ,

Thanks for the feedback. We will see if we can't add this feature into all versions.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

As long as you're considering adding some Advisor features into lower-priced versions, I'd like to suggest this:

Allow bulk account reconciliation in versions below the Advisor level. The investment limit makes sense on the different versions of FM, but I don't understand why all accounts can't be reconciled at once regardless of version.

I use the Professional version of FM. The price difference between Pro and Advisor is prohibitive for us, the single family user.

I respectfully hope you consider this request.

Hi aviator,

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that would be a good improvement. Even the Advisor version only allows bulk reconciliation when using institutional position/statement files. No version supports bulk reconciliation when the statement is retrieved through the retail OFX server.
Thanks,
Mark
