FM Advisor Hang

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I have two subortfolios that hang the program. One opens 25% and FMA stops responding. The other loads 15% and hangs the program.

Need a solution to this Mark.

Hi Mike,

1) What version are you using? See "Help / About...".

2) How are you opening a sub-portfolio? What specific menu command are you using that causes the hang? A sub-portfolio is not the same as a portfolio file, which is something you could "open". Just need clarification on what exactly you're doing/seeing.

Mark,

FM Advisor 2014.13.7

I open "Reports" and select one of my reports (Total Return v Tax Return). When I select the settings and select"Done" the screen shows a % of the file being opened (45% in this case and the hang occurs. It only happens with one particular client.

I can run 2 of the 4 individual sub-portfolios for this client. The other 2 will hang. The 2 that hang are larger files than the other 1.

Hi Mike,

I assume this is a "Custom" report? What fields do you have in this report? Any user-defined fields? What are your sub-total and list-by choices? How long have you left it computing the report before killing it?

If you want, you can email me a backup file (*.FMB), along with instructions, and I can try to reproduce it here, using your data.

Mark,

No custom fields. Fields used: Symbol,Tot Return(btw), ROI (btw), Tax Unrlz Gain AVG (end).

It has run for as long as 10 minutes. In each instance the "Not Responding" message appears.

I will send you an .fmb file.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the .FMB file. I restored your data, and created your memorized report (Total Return v Tax Return). I then chose "Edit / Report Settings..." and changed the sub-portfolio to the one you told me in the email. I left the date range at the defaults of 1/1/13 -7/11/13. The report calculation did pause on 42% for about 45 seconds, but then it completed, and the report was displayed. I then changed the report settings to 1/1/14 to 12/31/14, and the calculation took probably 2 minutes, but then the report did display. Can you tell me the exact steps/settings you're using to make it not calculate for 10 minutes?

Mark,

When I run this teport the time frame is usually "earliest transaction date to current date."

This is when the hang occurs. It only happens for this aub-port. This is a recent issue.

Hi Mike,

I still can't reproduce a hang. Using "Earliest transaction to date" generated a report that goes from 9/1/97 - 6/29/15. It did take a couple minutes to calculate, as that is a calculation intensive report, and for a long time period. If you let it work on it for longer than 10 minutes, does it ever complete? If I can't reproduce the problem here you may need to call the office, so we can take a look together on your computer.
