Retrieve Historical Prices: Personal vs. Professional

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby B2B_Investing » Thu Jul 23, 2015 12:47 pm

Hello Mark,

I am trying an evaluation copy of Professional and noticed a difference between the Personal and Professional Version when retrieving historical prices. Could you elaborate on this? (i.e. The personal version only lets one select dates while the Professional version additionally permits customization of splits and dividends. What are the "defaults" for the Personal version.)

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

The Personal version is retrieving with those options turned off. Using the Personal version is like using the Professional version with both the options to retrieve dividends and splits un-checked.

If you are retrieving transactions from your broker, you would normally want to leave those options un-checked, so you don't get duplicate transactions. Those options are usually used in cases where you're tracking things you don't actually own, or can't retrieve the transactions directly from your broker.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. I am retrieving transactions from my broker as well as retrieving prices for securities/indexes I am monitoring for purchase. Are these settings strictly global or can they be customized by ticker?

Hi Jason,

They apply to all investments retrieved for that price retrieve operation. If you use the toolbar button or "Edit / Internet Retrieve / Historical Prices", this updates all open investments, so you would want to leave these options off in this case. However, if you have some investments that you want to retrieve prices with these options on you can just retrieve selected historical prices. To do this, select the desired investments/sub-portfolios in the Portfolio Editor window, and right mouse click and choose "Retrieve Selected Historical Prices". Now you can leave on those options, as only those selected items are being retrieved.
Thanks,
Mark
