Yahoo intraday quote server not working

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby mogul456 » Tue Aug 11, 2015 7:21 am

Hi Mark, price update stopped working for Yahoo daily , Yahoo Historical is working, Bloomberg seems to be working. Yahoo daily is not working this morning either. It probably is yahoo's problem but I thought I would report it since the problem persists this morning. thanks|fc

Looks like Yahoo-REALTIME does not work either.
Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 480
Retrieving from server: (YAHOO-REALTIME)
Requesting: "^GSPC"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (YAHOO-REALTIME)

Quote Module Version = 480
Retrieving from server: (YAHOO-REALTIME)
Requesting: "A"
Updating Data...

Also getting bad data from Yahoo. But also not the same quote data in different portfolios even though both portfolios use the same quote server! Specifically, HXD Canadian shares. Up 2 cents in one portfolio and up 11 cents in another portfolio. Same shares, same quote server in both portfolios.

Hi moonlighter,

It shouldn't be possible to get different quotes for the same day and same symbol and same server and same retrieve. When you have a single retrieve common symbols are made as a single request, and all investments with that symbol are marked for update with the single result. You might verify that you're looking at the same date by viewing it in the Data Register right after a retrieve. Also, verify all the settings are the same under "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve".

I know yesterday some people were unable to get quotes from Yahoo. It seemed to be specific to certain Yahoo servers, as it was working normally all day for me here. If you're interested in trying to switch to a different/working Yahoo server, you can modify your hosts file, as I described in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3590

Or, you can switch to a different server until Yahoo gets whatever problem is happening, straightened out.
Thanks,
Mark

I see, one portfolio has the correct closing price for yesterday and another portfolio has the incorrect closing price. It's Yahoo that's the problem. I just manually updated yesterday's closing price for HXD Canadian shares. Yahoo gotta get it together. Thanks.

Hi mogul456,

Do you know what IP address you were using for Yahoo before the hosts file change? I'd like to try and reproduce the problem here. You can find out by temporarily removing that line from the hosts file, and do a:

ping download.finance.yahoo.com

from a CMD prompt.
Thanks,
Mark
