Vanguard 529 Internet Retrieve

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby ssuravarapu » Mon Oct 26, 2015 6:26 pm

Hi, may be it's a known issue -- Vanguard is not allowing internet retrieve of 529 accounts. I can setup all other Vanguard accounts fine. Wondering how others may be working around this?

It is not the issue of just setting up one time manual transactions into Fund Manager -- I wonder if there is a way we can updated the price of those funds as they don't have publicly available Ticker for these 529 funds, I guess?

Thoughts?

Mark, any thoughts? Wondering what the issue with auto-retrieve from Vanguard 529 accounts. Somehow Mint pulls these accounts in fine.

Hi ssuravarapu,

You can check if the Vanguard OFX server has this account by using the New Portfolio Wizard with an empty account number. You should get a listing of all the account numbers available for the login credentials you enter. It may be that the account number is listed in a slightly different way than you're expecting. If not, maybe it is under a different login. You might call Vanguard, and ask how to retrieve transactions for Quicken, as both Quicken and Fund Manager use the same OFX interface. Whatever instructions you get for Quicken you can use with Fund Manager.

Sometimes it is up to the particular plan custodian on whether or not they want to make the accounts available via OFX.

If the account isn't available to retrieve transactions, you wouldn't be able to get prices retrieved from the broker either. If the investments aren't quoted anywhere on any of our supported quote servers, you'd have to manually update the prices.
Thanks,
Mark

Okay, thanks Mark. Vanguard site states that they don't allow transaction download for 529 accounts.

No worries, I got my answer.
