I'm getting duplicate transactions

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

When I went through my normal process of downloading the month's transactions from all of my brokers I'm getting duplicate transactions for all my trades... from every broker.

I started to go through and just check one of the transactions and import only those, but I stopped knowing the duplicates would still be there again when I next download my transactions.

Right now it's showing I have 150 transactions, when I should only have 75. Do you know how to fix this? As of now I haven't officially 'accepted' the transactions (I selected none and canceled) so I'm hoping something can be corrected and I can just download the correct/original ones. thanks, Mark

Hi chancee,

The duplicates are showing in the same Preview window? For example, you see the same exact transaction listed twice in the Preview transactions dialog? Or, do you mean you have transactions showing up in the Preview dialog that are already recorded in Fund Manager?

If it is the first scenario, make sure you only have a single sub-portfolio marked for retrieving transactions for each unique account. Maybe you have 2 sub-portfolios with the same transaction retrieve settings, so it is retrieving twice?

If it is the second scenario, make sure you have on the option "Skip Transactions Already in Fund Manager" checked when you do the retrieve.
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, it is the first scenario. Duplicates are showing in the same Preview window before I even have a chance to record them. Where do I go to check and make sure I only have a single sub-portfolio marked for retrieving transactions for each unique account?

For the record, this just suddenly happened. I haven't even used FM since the last time when it worked fine. Just to note, I am using the fund manager mobile... although I always use the same computer. thanks

Yeah... this is definitely a huge nightmare. If you have any fixes I'm really open to them. I don't see anything out of sorts when looking at sub-portfolios, etc.

I've spent about an hour attempting to go down the Preview screen and pick out the original transaction and leave the duplicate... but that is not possible. There are tons of transactions labeled very similar to others regarding the cash accounts, etc... one mistake and my balances are all off and it will take forever to track down the missing transaction or duplicate.

I have seven brokerage accounts and about 80 transactions for the last month.. but it's showing 150 transactions. -Mark

You check the transaction retrieve settings by right mouse clicking on a sub-portfolio, and choosing "Properties... / Transaction Retrieve Settings...". Also, when you retrieve transactions pay attention to how many accounts it says it is retrieving. If you have 7 accounts, you should only see 7, and not 14 for example.

You can also try retrieving just a single account, instead of at the top level.
Thanks,
Mark

I was finally able to get a download without duplicates and I'm really not sure how. All the sub-portfolio stuff looked okay per your directions, but I did remember that during the 'downloading transactions' process I saw a quick error message pop up saying something about one of my accounts not having the right user/pass. I then remembered that yesterday I de-linked my ameritrade IRA with the margin account on their website. I wound up having to call ameritrade and find out my old username for the IRA... I had never needed it since when I signed into their platform it always signed me into both accounts.

When I right clicked on both of my ameritrade accounts, went to properties, and then to retrieve transaction settings, they both had A.G. Edwards as the broker they call in to. So I'm not sure how my ameritrade accounts have been updating all this time... Calling into AG Edwards?

Anyway, I changed the IRA username to the one ameritrade gave me and changed both institutions to TD Ameritrade, away from AG Edwards. But I did do all this AFTER I was able get a download without the duplicates. So not sure what the future will hold. Hopefully this will somehow have fixed the duplicates issue. Thanks, Mark

Hi chancee,

I can't really tell what went wrong. Hopefully it is straightened out now. The idea is you just want to make sure you have 1 sub-portfolio assigned per unique account, and of course you need the proper username/password/broker selection. The broker selection should not change on you, so if you see that happening somehow, let us know.
Thanks,
Mark
