"C" Hotkey while Viewing Cost - Value Graph

Questions on using, creating, or understanding data in Fund Manager graphs.

Postby B2B_Investing » Thu Apr 28, 2016 5:44 am

Hello Mark,

I accidentally keyed "C" while viewing a cost-value graph and noticed that is adjusts the Cost Line. Can you help me understand which is being toggled?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

The "C" key toggles the cost option between "Historical" and "Current". See the menu command "Graphs / Options / Historical cost". In "Historical" mode your cost is since inception. In "Current" mode, it is only the cost of the currently owned shares. Consider the case:

Buy 100 shares for $1,000
Sell 75 shares for $900

In "Historical" mode, the cost of those remaining 25 shares is $100. In "Current" mode, the cost is $250.

For more of an explanation, see the documentation:

Thanks,

Hello Mark,

That helps a lot. I noticed that as I exited and then later reentered a position the cost could graph as negative. This helps quite a bit. Thanks,

Jason
