Blockede by Bloomberg

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

I have been using Bloomberg for quite a while to download fund prices on about 50 of my personal holdings (I am not a professional adviser). I have been blocked by Bloomberg for breaching the terms of service and when I asked why, they emailed back...

Their link sends me to a page that assumes that I am a professional adviser.

Does anyone else use Bloomberg, as I thought it was OK to download using Fund Manager for private purposes.

Hi Alexanderfrood,

It sounds like Bloomberg has tightened up their TOS rules. Another user reported this same problem yesterday. Unfortunately I think this means we will need to remove Bloomberg from our list of quote servers, and try to find a replacement.

Thanks for the reply.

In that case, how do I use the Morningstar UK server? I tried following the instructions from the server page but the price does not update. For example, Liontrust Special Situations I Inc has a code in the URL of F00000JWHC. However, when I put that code in the symbol box and select Morningstar UK Unit Trusts as the server, the price does not update.

Hi Alexanderfrood,

Did you make sure to select the quote server "Morningstar UK - Unit Trusts"? I just tested this ID, and it retrieved the price properly. There are several quote servers that start with "Morningstar", so make sure to choose the one that says "Morningstar UK - Unit Trusts".

Yes, it is the Morningstar UK - Unit Trusts. Still does not work. The symbol box has F00000JWHC entered.

The log says...

Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 494
Retrieving from server: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)
Requesting: "F00000JWHC"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (MORNINGSTAR-UK)

Do you have on the option:

Options / Internet Settings... / Proxy Server / Use Windows Settings

Can you view this price online by going here:

http://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/funds/s ... F00000JWHC

If so, and you still cannot retrieve this price, try retrieving the price by itself by right mouse clicking on it, and choosing "Retrieve Selected Price". If it doesn't update, email me this file:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager\intlog2.txt

I will send you an email, so you can reply to that with the attachment.

Yes, selecting Windows Settings seemed to do it. It downloads now.

We have published an updated quote module (495) that removes the Bloomberg quote servers due to this Terms Of Service limitation. This new quote module adds support for new Quandl quote servers.
