9.3 bug-fix clarification

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby k_kirk » Thu Sep 25, 2008 4:31 am

Hi,

I was having a problem with 2 newly created currencies but did not have the time to report or deal with till now. I noted the following in the change log :

When opening a portfolio with "View / Exchange Rate Adjusted" on, any investments assigned to currencies in the new 9 through 25 positions under "Options / Currency Settings..." would be incorrectly exchanged.

Sounds like this might be it. Can you kindly clarify what to do after installing 9.3 to fix the affected investments? In my case the TWD & KRW currency exchange rates were getting multiplied over & over such that my portfolio ended up showing as if its worth billions!

Thanks for your help.

Hi k_kirk,

Yes, this sounds like you may have run into this bug.

If you were using a constant multiplier for your exchange rate, you can use "File / File Operations / Scale Prices..." to reset your investments. Put affected investment(s) into a new temporary sub-portfolio, and only scale investment(s) in that sub-portfolio.

If you were using an exchange rate investment, you will need to re-retrieve prices, and manually adjust your transaction prices. Alternatively, you can restore a backup of your investment. I realize in this case it may be a lot of work if you've had many transactions, or you don't have a good backup. We're considering making available a patch that would allow you to scale your pricing data by a given investment, rather than a constant multiplier. You could then use the "File / File Operations / Scale Prices..." approach, but select the assigned exchange rate investment, instead of a constant multiplier. If this would be a help in restoring your data please let me know.

I apologize for the hassle here. This was an unfortunate bug, but we'll do whatever it takes to help get your data corrected.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks for your kind reply. Thankfully I had a very small number of transactions across these two currencies so I simply removed them, deleted all price data, entered transactions again and downloaded historic price data. Now all seems to be ok except a glitch on the cost vs value graph which I submitted a screen shot about. I think we're getting there.

Thanks for all your continued support. Regards,
Kerem

Hi Karem,

I'm glad to hear you were able to recover without too much trouble.

I did reply to your screen shot question. It looks like the problem was you have log scale turned on, and you can't view negative numbers in log scale mode.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for that! Indeed the problem due to a user error rather than the s/w. Thanks for your prompt assistance.
