Could Not Update Any Investments

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby dbender54 » Wed Jul 13, 2016 6:57 pm

Would appreciate some assistance. The only thing that changed in my portfolio from a transaction perspective today was that I sold a call. Now I get a "Could Not Update any transactions" error message. I tried retrieving just that investment's price, but I received the message: "Could Not Update Any Investments". I checked the investment properties of the transaction for Internet Retrieve to see that it is using the Yahoo Quote server (and it was).

What else can I check/change to correct the error I am receiving?

I checked the following log files:
ofxpost.txt
xmldump.txt

Reviewing the file intlog3.txt shows:
Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 496
Retrieving from server: (YAHOO-OPTIONS)
Requesting: "RL 160819C00100000"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (YAHOO-OPTIONS)

and also reviewed various report logs in the Fund Manager folder with the other logs mentioned
I've had this error type before, and it always seems to arise when selling a call.

Thanks for your help.

Hi dbender54,

Yahoo Finance changed their site yesterday, and the following quote servers are currently not working:

Yahoo (Historical)
Yahoo (Options)
Yahoo (Realtime)

We are working on an update to restore them. You can check the status under "Help / FM on the Web / Check for Updates...".
Thanks,
Mark

Hi dbender54,

Quote module 497 is now available that fixes all the Yahoo servers, and adds support for additional servers. The Yahoo (Historical) server requires Fund Manager 2016.14.8 or later, which is available now on the download page. For information on all the available quote servers, please see:

I downloaded and installed the update (Professional) , however, I still get the same message in the logfile intlog3.txt
Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 497
Retrieving from server: (YAHOO-OPTIONS)
Requesting: "RL 160819C00100000"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (YAHOO-OPTIONS)

Please review and advise.

Hi dbender54,

You have a space in your symbol. Yahoo doesn't have spaces in their symbols. If you remove that space it should retrieve.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks. Don't know how the space got there as the transaction was downloaded by FM, but I will fix it Thanks for spitting something I doubt I would have noticed.

There were actually several (I think 3) spaces between the symbol and the particular call option. I deleted those spaces and the price retrieved as it should have. Thanks again.

Hi dbender54,

We've just had to release another update. Version 2016.14.9 and quote module 498 will support retrieving option quotes with spaces in the symbols. Hopefully this makes it more convenient so you don't have to change any of your symbols as retrieved from the broker.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I am starting to switch my securities to Reuters server and now have the following error:

Retrieve Starting
Quote Module Version = 502
Retrieving from server: (REUTERS)
Requesting: "ARM:NR"
Could not update any investments
WARNING: Server used but did not update any prices: (REUTERS)

what is the issue now with this server both for current and historical prices ?

thanks

Hi SteveK,

The symbol should be ARM.NR instead of ARM:NR. I just test retrieved it, and it obtained the price correctly.

Reuters is only a current quote server. If you also want historical prices, try Quandl and/or FondsCheck:

Hi Mark,

None of these servers have African stocks ( Kenya ) historical prices that we had on Bloomberg. What do we do now? Would you be aware of another server that is able to retrieve prices of African stocks?

thanks for your feedback

Steve

Hello,

I don't want to answer for Mark, but could you give some examples of stocks? Have you tried Wall Street Journal? Their database is pretty good.
