Running as Administrator

Dear Mark,

I tried to download the updates to FM but did not have permission. (I am running Vista Home). I took your suggestion and ran FM again, with permission. However, FM was unable to find the data file. Looking at my file structure with Explorer, I found that all was normal; going back to the usual FM, it found the data file with no problems. When I go into the file structure with FM under administrator, it looks at the main FM folder, and sees only two of the three folders there, Fund Manager and Samples.

Now, I have changed the title of the missing file, as I often move it between my laptop and my main computer. It is now called: Fund Manager_Data. Since there is no problem running FM normally but only when I am doing so as administrator, is there another problem I might have? Currently, I am running FM under Vista on a laptop.

Hi John,

What version of Fund Manager are you using? It sounds like you are using an old (non-Vista compatible) version. The 9.x versions have fixed all the problems running under Vista. If you're using an older version, you might benefit by reading this:

It describes why you can see different data depending on whether you're running Fund Manager as an admin or not. When you're not running as admin and using an old version, your data gets "virtualized" automatically by Vista. Current FM versions will never have their data virtualized.
